History
The Wright Room is on the second story of the nine-story Denver Masonic Building. Erected in 1889, this historic structure was once a jewel in the crown of brewpub pioneer turned Colorado Governor John W. Hickenlooper. This particular mall crossing honors one of Denver’s founding fathers, Norton W. Welton. These mens’ shared middle name, Wright, was chosen as the Wright Room’s moniker.
The Wright Room is conveniently located along Denver’s free Mall shuttle service which serves as the “backbone” of downtown Denver.
The following landmarks are located within three blocks or less from the corner of 16th Street and Welton; Colorado Convention Center, Denver Performing Arts Complex, Denver Pavilions, Paramount Theater, Light Rail and 14 downtown hotels.
Owner operated
Johnny James Qualley managed the Appaloosa Grill for three years before he and Adam Hill purchased the restaurant in 2005. They have since sold interest to other employees; Mark Kline (Bar Manager), Mattè Copeland (AGM), and Guy Faulkner (Talent Buyer). Kelly Qualley is also an owner, and you’ll likely see Johnny and Kelly at events—greeting guests, pouring drinks, and tending to all of the details together.
This team of owners and managers is involved in every aspect of the business every day. With 20 years of excellence in hospitality, they bring the pride of ownership and the benefit of experience to every event hosted at the Wright Room.

This was a great place for our rehearsal dinner. The owner, Johnny, was so nice and accommodating. The staff was attentive and helpful all night. We had an amazing dinner that people could not stop raving about, I can’t tell you how many times we heard, ‘the food was delicious!’ Thank you to the Appaloosa Grill for making our rehearsal dinner amazing, we would definitely recommend it to anyone in the area for events or even just to stop by and eat.”

I recently held my company’s holiday part here. IT WAS SPECTACULAR!!!! From planning to day of, everything went incredibly smoothly! The staff was amazing, the food delicious, and the atmosphere perfect! I would highly recommend this venue to anyone hosting a party! And talk about AFFORDABLE! I was able to cut my budget in half by hosting my party here!”
Words cannot describe how perfect this place was. We used this for our wedding reception as we are from out of state and had to do everything based on the reviews and pictures. Johnny was so helpful and accommodating to all my requests. The space is on the third floor, which has stairs and elevators to get to the desired spot. It’s away from business of the first floor restaurant. I loved all the wood that was incorporated Into the room. It fit our party of 32 perfectly. We started with fruit, veggies and cheese. Followed by the bison chili, which is beyond amazing. We then had a salad and three entrees. The Cuban chicken, red snapper and tenderloin. All which was so flavorful and well presented. They also helped us cut the cake at no extra fee. His wife helped with the event and she was the sweetest. We were able to get in early the day of to decorate and let us borrow a few items too. The Wright room was perfect and I’m so happy we found them to Celebrate our day.”
Johnny and Kelly were amazing hosts! We hosted a small company function at The Wright Room and the space was perfect size and atmosphere, the food was delicious and all cooked well, and the Japanese whiskey tasting led by Johnny was incredibly enjoyable. Would absolutely recommend them for any small, private event in Denver.”
